The library is the central hub for literacy, reading and learning at Ashburton Primary School and contains a wide range of up-to-date information and literary resources available for browsing, reading and borrowing. The range of reading materials available includes the latest children’s fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, as well as picture story books. New books are added to the catalogue throughout the year.
Students have a weekly library session with their class teacher, where they have the opportunity to:
- Read, explore and borrow new books
- Find appropriate Good Fit books
- Reserve or hold books they are interested in borrowing
- Select books for classroom tasks including author’s studies and literary features
All library books can be borrowed for a 2-week period, and can be renewed unless another student has reserved the book in question.
Each year Children’s Book Week is celebrated with a range of activities and resources all by outstanding Australian children’s book authors and illustrators. The Children’s Book Council of Australia announces a Shortlist of book titles each year and these are purchased, made available for borrowing, reading and enjoyment by the entire school community.
Not only does the library contain a wealth of local, Australian and International information and resources, it is also simply a wonderful welcoming space to visit, read and just ‘be’ in.
