Student Leadership

Leadership is a quality we expect all students at Ashburton Primary School to demonstrate. Through the curriculum and extracurricular activities, all students are supported and encouraged to develop the skills necessary to be a leader. The Year 6 cohort elects 18 official leaders to represent our school ideals both within and outside our school community.

These leaders are: School and Vice School Captains and SRC, Sports, Performing Arts, Visual Art, Japanese, Smile and Library leaders.

Effective leaders need to possess the following attributes: team skills, confidence, public speaking skills, responsibility and organisation. Hence, once leaders have been selected, they will be provided with additional leadership training to help them focus on developing these skills further.

Various leadership training programs are provided to Year 5 students in Term 4, which focus on a range of practical skills required to prepare students for leadership in Year 6.
