From the Principal

We've just come off a verrry long assembly but when it's filled with so many good things, I think it's worth it. Here's a run down of what was on -

We started with acknowledging the new indigenous season of Luk by Kalinga and Jirra. They do an awesome job each time we enter a new season by describing what we are in for.

We then had our usual Acknowledgement of County, National Anthem and Values sections, before we were treated to a wonderfully electric performance of Cups by Kalinga and Anya

Taylor gave us an update on SMILE and how close we are to our next Whole School Reward (a movie!) before we celebrated the swimmers who represented us at District and Division levels. We heard about the upcoming Harmony Day, Leni, Jumoke and Ara told us about the good work the Gate Greeters are doing, and learned some more about two of our new teachers Miss V and Miss Hooper (they both love their dogs!). We continued the Colour Run push by drawing names to win prizes, awarded 3C with a special icy pole treat and then launched our new Container Deposit Scheme program.

Liam and Anya told us about the Boroondara Photography and Literacy competitions that students can enter, members of our Specialist Team Mabel, Caitlin and Eliza invited Year 1/2 students to a special indoor soccer competition, whilst Veer and Henry informed everyone of the Footy Tipping competition (pick 9 and you get to pick the bell music!).

A big crowd was there to see badges given out to JSC members, whilst we gave out the first Ashy Award to Taylor for her great efforts stepping up at District Swimming.

We run assemblies in the hall every fortnight on Fridays at 2pm. I encourage you to visit!

Luk Season

As we enter March, the local indigenous season moves to Luk (the eel) season. As described by Kalinga and Jira at assembly, Luk Season is when

  • Hot winds cease and temperatures cool.

  • Iuk (eels) are fat and ready to harvest.

  • Binap (Manna Gum) is flowering.

  • Days and nights are of equal length.

We want your containers!

We want your containers!

We have joined with the Container Deposit Scheme to help raise money for the school and help the environment too!

Members of the Ashy Community Team's Green Team launched the program at this week's assembly.

Look for the House coloured bins at the front of the schools on Mondays and Fridays starting March 17th.

Drop your plastic bottles and drink cans (with the 10c logo on them) into your house bin.

We then will take them all to the deposit centre and keep a tally to see which house has the most containers!

The money raised will go towards the Green Team initiatives such as garden work and recycling resources.

Please note, we do not want glass bottles or alcohol either!

District Swimming Success!

Some amazing efforts of our swimmers to make it to the Division level of swimming. They gave their all and should be proud of making it so far. Our girls Under 11 freestyle relay team won a thrilling race by a fraction of a second and will be heading off to the Regional finals later this month. Thank you to all the parents for organising transport to and from the event.

Yr 1 latest

Over the last few weeks, the Year 1 students have been working hard across all our subject areas. Recently we have been:
- Tally marking and collecting data and making bar graphs to display the data.
- Learning about simple sentences and practising our capital letters and full stops.
- Rereading our sentences to ensure they make sense.
- Developing our additive think skills by practising ‘number bonds’ and learning about the equals sign to understand that it means ‘the same as’.

- Practising reading with our decodable texts and learning to read with increasing fluency.

- Making connections to the books we read and explaining how we relate to characters and stories.
